Prior to joining Gunnip in 2017, Tony's professional experience comprised “ Big 4” public accounting, practicing law, serving in leadership roles for closely-held businesses, working with high net worth individuals, providing on-site advisory and C-level services to private equity firms and teaching as an adjunct professor of law.
Tony’s experience in business services includes business structuring, formation and strategic planning, cash flow and key metric reporting models, commercial loans, real estate financing, buyer and seller due diligence, purchases and sales of business assets and stock, mergers, acquisitions and corporate reorganizations, litigation support, tax minimization planning and structuring and federal, state and local tax audit representation, appeals and litigation. Tony’s experience working with closely-held businesses and high net worth individuals includes control and governance, intergenerational succession and wealth transfers, income, estate, gift and trust taxes, trust formation and trustee accountings and financial support, related and third party financing and family office operations and education.
As Tony explains it, “whether I'm working with businesses with revenues of $10 million or $500 million, working with small businesses or organizations with over 100 entities, or structuring family holdings and trusts to pass along millions of dollars in assets between multiple generations, it’s the variety of issues and opportunities that energizes me to engage with, support and be there for my clients!” A few of Tony's selected accomplishments include:
- Created and instituted systems to report per customer profit contributions and to monitor cash, accounts receivable, inventory and KPIs.
- Negotiated and closed on numerous corporate transactions including mergers, acquisitions, spin offs and divestitures and on over two dozen financings valued in excess of $400 million.
- Represented clients on federal, state and local tax audits and levies and eliminated over $1 million in tax claims and quashed levy enforcement efforts.
- Designed dynastic wealth-transfer strategies yielding over $75 million in transfer tax savings.
With accomplishments in finance, operations, strategic planning, tax matters and wealth-transfer strategies, Tony has oftentimes been referred to by his clients as a “Chief Fire-Fighting Financial Officer.”
While not working, Tony enjoys spending time with his family, exercising as much as possible with his many “Y-Buds” and going to the beach in Lewes. Tony enjoys listening to music from all genres and he is quite good at music trivia. Tony was previously appointed by the Governor of Delaware to chair a five-member Board with fiduciary responsibilities to over 50,000 constituents and the state legislature. Tony has presented dozens of speaking engagements to business owners, professionals and general audiences. Tony has also authored many articles published in professional journals including serving as a contributing author and task force member for the AICPA Audit Committee Toolkit: Private Companies.
