With nearly 25 years of experience at Gunnip & Company, George is a partner in the firm’s assurance practice. He oversees audits, reviews, consulting engagements, and corporate taxation in various industries with a specialization in private schools and not-for-profit organizations.
George left the firm briefly to join Sanford School as a business manager. He returned after five years with a new perspective and greater appreciation of his clients. “There are so many things clients have to juggle and many of them supersede accounting. So my approach is different, and I have a broader base knowledge of how they operate now.” George has provided guidance for his clients in a number of areas including:
- Serving as a resource to clients dealing with the economy who are considering raising fees or cutting back on employee benefits. George researches and provides what-if scenarios with careful consideration in the best interest of his clients.
- Identifying a discrepancy for a non-profit client who was unaware that they should have received tax exempt funds. George communicated with the bank and the client was able to recoup nearly $40K.
- Restructuring the reporting process for a large non-profit client whose net assets released from restriction were originally off by millions of dollars. George succeeded in reducing the inconsistency to an immaterial amount and continues to advise them.
With his calm and friendly demeanor, George is content knowing that each client has his full attention from the very start. “Trust accumulates over time. When you make clients feel comfortable, they look at you as a business partner. They feel like they have an advocate they can depend on.”
George grew up in Delaware and now lives in Wilmington with his wife and two children. He enjoys playing sports with them, and attending their games. In the summertime, George spends time at the pool and vacations with his family to various tropical destinations.
